Introduction: Childhood memories are back. The once-popular family travel destination in Miaoli, Qiumao Garden, has been revitalized with a government investment of NT$20 million. The abandoned park has been transformed into a fantastic place for slides. Join baby Wen (bobowin) as they try out the octopus spiral slide.[Family Travel]Spiral Slide at Miaoli Qiumao Garden

There are two slides in Miaoli Qiumao Garden. The spiral one is perfect for kids—it’s not too fast, and the main fun lies in not being able to see what’s ahead, allowing you to enjoy 360-degree views. It's not extremely slippery, so you can bring your own cardboard. Fu Bao and Grandma had a great time together. Fu Bao, the slide ambassador who has tried slides all over Taiwan, rates the spiral slide (★★★★) for its creative design, which is rare elsewhere. After the beginner-friendly spiral slide, the more challenging Octopus Slide comes next.

The slide consists of four staircases and four slides. You can even have a slide race. From above, it really looks like a monster—feel free to check it out on Google Maps satellite view. Baby Wen says it’s tough because it’s higher than usual slides and much steeper, resulting in very high speeds. It's recommended for kids aged 4 and up to ride alone. It’s best to wear thick shoes—you can use them to brake. Just look at Fu Bao’s face to see how thrilling it is. Baby Wen tried it too, and both of us were stunned—it’s the fastest slide Baby Wen has ever tried.

How does that feeling of looking down from above feel? Any sense of pressure?

After the slides, the fun time ends, and it’s time to revisit childhood memories with the kids. Back in the day, Qiumao Garden was full of statues, though memories have faded. This time, after exploring the whole park, we saw themed statues of all kinds, with wildly varying styles—it felt oddly unique.

Walking through the central avenue of Qiumao Garden, the tunnel of short trees on both sides is the most beautiful scenery in the park.

Qiumao Garden is near the sea. Enter from the side gate of the slides and keep walking to reach the beach. The seawall is very long, with bike racks, suggesting it’s designed as a bike path. The sea breeze is strong, so dress warmly.

Endless sandy beaches. The area is very windy, and wind turbines can be spotted from time to time.

On the way back, we spotted a scene of Tang Sanzang retrieving Buddhist scriptures in Qiumao Garden.

Dr. Sun Yat-sen also makes an appearance in the park.

The army protecting the nation—the army, navy, and air force—are lined up to welcome visitors. Qiumao Garden has two locations in Taiwan, in Miaoli and Tainan. It was built by overseas Chinese Huang Qiumao from Japan as a way to give back to his hometown.

Comparing with today’s big entrepreneurs, Baby Wen is deeply moved—the hearts of people in the past were truly simpler.
