Centered around “Taiwanese cuisine,” the event embarks on a journey to explore the roots of Taiwanese food. Running from October 21 to December 2, it presents the spirit of veteran master chefs through oral history, recalling the culinary legacy passed down from their fathers’ generation. Through their stories, the public can not only witness delicious dishes but also catch a glimpse of life during those times.

The 2017 Tainan Food Festival features five major series of events, including a large-scale banquet themed around retro cooking styles titled “Master Chef’s Vintage-Style Feast,” a “CHEF Take Me There!” chef-guided mini tour that introduces participants to local producers and ingredients, a “Tainan Dessert Media Recommendation Fair” gathering specialty dessert shops in Tainan, a handbook and monograph titled “Tainan Cuisine – A Table of Taiwanese Time” documenting the delicate flavors of Tainan, and a real-life game called “The Mystery Must Be Solved After the Meal.”

In addition, the chefs deeply rooted in Tainan are artisans who give soul to food. They persevere in their culinary paths in their own unique ways—whether it’s valuing inspiration and respect for ingredients, emphasizing meticulous techniques, or joyfully innovating... All play pivotal roles in Tainan’s culinary heritage, continuously building upon and innovating within the tradition of Tainan cuisine, performing traditional dishes in a contemporary way, injecting new vitality into Taiwanese gastronomy, and together shaping Tainan as a city of food.
