The Famous Chicken City Makes a Strong Comeback at a New Location with a New Way to Eat

The long-established hand-pulled chicken shop “Fragrant Chicken City” is finally making its return after 20 years. This nostalgic old-school chicken spot has brought back many childhood memories. It reopened in Bali, New Taipei City last August, attracting numerous locals from the 1960s and 1970s school generations. Unexpectedly, the Bali branch, which had been operating for less than a year, had to close in February this year due to lease expiration, leaving many feeling disappointed. At that time, Fragrant Chicken City mentioned that the store would relocate to a larger and more accessible location, and now it has been confirmed to settle in Xinzhuang, with trial operations expected to begin on October 24.

Established in 1984 as Taiwan’s first hand-pulled chicken pioneer, “Fragrant Chicken City” is now being managed by the third generation of the founding family. Just like in the past, it insists on carefully selecting locally raised Taiwanese chickens, while also preserving the family’s original roast chicken recipe. The focus is on low-temperature, long-duration roasting, ensuring that the chicken juices are fully sealed within the meat—resulting in a “hand-pulled chicken with broth,” which is a beloved taste that many miss. In addition to the traditional seasoning blend, there is now also a spicy sauce option, generating excitement among netizens for this new flavor.

Now, in addition to the traditional way of eating, Fragrant Chicken City has introduced two new ways to enjoy their chicken. One combines fresh seasonal vegetables with hand-pulled chicken and a specially made dipping sauce, offering both healthiness and great taste. The other involves drizzling hand-pulled chicken juice over the fragrant chicken oil rice balls, complementing the classic hand-pulled chicken for a more filling bite—one of grilled chicken paired with a rice ball.
