Lime Mountain Site

The Lime Mountain Site is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Jiangxi Province.

The Lime Mountain Site is located on the southwestern side of Lime Mountain in Team 1 of Zhejiang Resettlement Village, Nieqiao Township, approximately 12.5 kilometers southwest of Dean County. It lies south of the De-Bai (Dean–Baishui) Highway, with the Fuyang River meandering past its western edge. The site covers an area of about 60,000 square meters, with its northwestern part damaged by the highway.

As early as the Neolithic Age, ancient people lived and thrived here. Late Neolithic jade artifacts have been discovered in Hutang Reservoir, Zouqiao Township. During the Xia Dynasty, the place was referred to as “Fushan Yuan.” In the Western Han Dynasty, it was designated as Liling County. During the Liang of the Southern Dynasties, it was incorporated into Chaishang County, later into Desheng County, and then the southern part of Luoyang in the Fushan Yuan region was renamed Pushangchang. In the first year of Qiánzhēn (the seventh year of Shùnyì, 927 AD) during the Yang Wu of the Five Dynasties, Pushangchang was established as Dean County, which now belongs to Jiujiang City. The Lime Mountain Site sits on a terrace 10–20 meters above the Fuyang River, classified as a riverside high-bank hilly terrace type. It was discovered in March 1982 by the Jiujiang Region Cultural Relics Census Training Class. In the autumn of that year, a trial excavation was jointly carried out by the Jiangxi Provincial Cultural Relics Team and the Dean County Museum, uncovering an area of 330 square meters and yielding a significant collection of important remains and artifacts. In November 1987, it was designated as a Jiangxi Provincial-level Cultural Heritage Protection Unit.
