Zheng'an Tengcha
1. Quality characteristics
The tea liquor is light yellow, pure and refreshing, with a slight sweetness.
2. Historical origins and geographical-cultural context
Tengcha is a perennial vine-like edible plant, mainly distributed in Qiaoqing Village, Fuyan Township, Zheng'an County. It is widely planted along courtyard walls and bamboo fences in front of and behind houses, with a cultivation history spanning several hundred years. Its stems and leaves are considered an excellent beverage for hosting distinguished guests, earning high praise from drinkers. However, due to limitations in local culture and economic conditions, this premium beverage has not yet entered the market and remains entirely at the stage of self-cultivation, self-consumption, and self-enjoyment, without receiving significant attention. Since April 2004 to the present, the Science and Technology Bureau of Zheng'an County has included this tea as one of the key varieties for economic development and has conducted detailed surveys. To date, it has only been found growing in this region, with a scattered planting area of nearly 100 acres.
3. Work carried out by the local government
First, since April 2004, the Science and Technology Bureau of Zheng'an County has conducted resource surveys on Tengcha across the county and listed it as one of the key protected varieties for local economic development. Second, the bureau has invested over 20,000 yuan in research on high-quality, high-yield cultivation techniques for Tengcha, achieving commendable results. Third, small-scale experimental demonstrations have been carried out in the area. Fourth, large-scale planting and processing will soon be initiated based on demonstration and promotion efforts, gradually bringing the product to market and cultivating it into a uniquely distinctive beverage that serves both society and the people.
