Xiushui Memorial Hall of the Autumn Harvest Uprising

The Xiushui Memorial Hall of the Autumn Harvest Uprising is a national AAA-level tourist attraction, a classic red tourism site, and a patriotic education base.

The Xiushui Memorial Hall of the Autumn Harvest Uprising is located at No. 136 Fenghuangshan Road, Xiushui County. It is a thematic memorial dedicated to the Autumn Harvest Uprising and was first built in 1977. Covering an area of 3,000 square meters with an exhibition line of 160 meters, the museum currently houses 330 cultural relics, including 7 national first-class relics, 12 second-class relics, and 58 third-class relics. It oversees more than 60 revolutionary sites across the county, including 1 national cultural heritage conservation unit and 3 county-level cultural heritage conservation units. The museum’s emblem was inscribed by He Changgong, one of the designers of the Workers’ and Peasants’ Revolutionary Army flag, who was also a staff officer at the division headquarters during the Autumn Harvest Uprising and former Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference.

After the failure of the Great Revolution in 1927, in order to save the Chinese revolution, the Party Central Committee held the August 7th Meeting in Hankou, which decided that Comrade Mao Zedong would organize and launch the Autumn Harvest Uprising in the Hunan-Jiangxi border region. Xiushui was a major birthplace of the Autumn Harvest Uprising, serving as the headquarters of the First Division and the First Regiment of the First Army of the Workers’ and Peasants’ Revolutionary Army. It was also the place where the first military flag of the Party’s openly armed resistance against reactionaries was designed, produced, and first raised. To promote patriotic and revolutionary tradition education, on the 50th anniversary of the Autumn Harvest Uprising, in September 1977, the county built the Xiushui Memorial Hall of the Autumn Harvest Uprising, restored the former sites of the First Division and First Regiment headquarters, and opened them to the public.

Since its establishment, the memorial hall has received millions of visitors and serves as an important site for patriotic and revolutionary tradition education, as well as for promoting the spirit of the Autumn Harvest Uprising. The memorial hall has been designated as a patriotic education demonstration base by the Jiujiang Municipal People’s Government, the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, the Jiangxi Provincial Committee of the CPC, and the Jiangxi Provincial People’s Government.

In October 2004, the Xiushui birthplace of the Autumn Harvest Uprising was selected as one of the “Top Ten Red Tourism Attractions in Jiangxi” in the hearts of the people.

In 2005, the Xiushui County Autumn Harvest Uprising memorial site series was listed as a national classic red tourism attraction by 13 departments including the National Development and Reform Commission and the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee.
