Xiushui Scenic Area

Xiushui Scenic Area is a national wetland park.

Xiushui Scenic Area is located along the Xiushui River and its surrounding areas, stretching approximately 36 kilometers from Shuangjing Village to Yangmeidu Village in Xiushui County. The “Da-Guang” Expressway provides direct access to the scenic area. It is within 230 kilometers of Nanchang, Jiujiang, Changsha, and Wuhan. This is a comprehensive tourism destination integrating sightseeing, leisure, and vacation. The scenic area was approved for establishment by the Jiangxi Provincial People's Government in July 1995, and was further planned and developed in 2005.

The overall planned area of the scenic zone is about 70 square kilometers. It primarily follows a 36-kilometer Xiushui River sightseeing corridor as the main line, with key spots including the Valley Hometown Scenic Area, Wetland Wilderness Scenic Area, Xiushui Local Life Scenic Area, Outdoor Adventure Scenic Area, Cradling Children Scenic Area, Stone Forest Cave Scenic Area, and Yangmeidu Ancient Camphor Grove Scenic Area—collectively referred to as “one line connecting seven pearls.”

The scenic area features the crystal-clear Xiushui River with naturally preserved vegetation along its banks. It is also home to the former residence and tomb of Huang Tingjian, a Song Dynasty poet and calligrapher, as well as cliff inscriptions. Other highlights include the Xiushui Memorial Hall for the Autumn Harvest Uprising (the former site of the headquarters and regimental office of the First Division and First Regiment of the Workers’ and Peasants’ Revolutionary Army). There are also mysterious and uniquely beautiful stone forest caves, along with thousands of acres of peach and pear orchards creating picturesque scenery. The area boasts over 100 scenic spots, with notable ones including Shuangjing Tea Visits, Rock Jetty Moon Fishing, Heron on Grass Path, Ten-Mile Beautiful Water, Jingyang Riverside Ferry, Cloud Cliff Morning Bell, Fishermen’s Evening Songs, and Cradling Children Looking Homeward—collectively known as the “Eight Scenic Spots of Xiushui.”

Valley Hometown Scenic Area: This area is the hometown of Huang Tingjian, a Song Dynasty poet and calligrapher, where 48 scholars attained the title of “Jinshi” (advanced scholar) in that single dynasty alone. Attractions include Huang Tingjian’s former residence, tomb, the ancestral shrine of the Huang family, Gaofeng Academy, Mingyue Bay, and cliff inscriptions handwritten by Huang Tingjian.

Xiushui Local Life Scenic Area: Nestled by mountains and water, this area features lush bamboo forests, blooming peach and pear trees, and scattered farmhouses, presenting a classic rural idyll. Visitors can explore the Lianxi Academy, founded by philosopher Zhou Dunyi when he served as the chief clerk of Fenning, and the memorial hall of eminent scholar Chen Yinke.

Dongling Stone Forest Cave Scenic Area: This area showcases undulating stone forests resembling a forest made of stone, complemented by thousands of acres of peach and pear trees. In spring, the blossoming peach and pear flowers create a scene reminiscent of a paradise on earth. On the mountainside, there are several natural caves with diverse and stunning interiors, as if shaped by divine craftsmanship, leaving visitors in awe.
