Ancient trees in Yuduan

The pepper tree is located beside the Dayu Highway, in front of the Youzha Old House in Yuduan Village. It is a species brought back by the ancestors of the Wu family from Taiyuan, Shanxi. It is one of the three oldest trees in the Yuduan area and also the oldest pepper tree in our county, with a history of nearly seven hundred years.

The pepper tree is massive and majestic in appearance: the trunk has a diameter of 2.5 meters, requiring seven or eight people to encircle it. The main trunk splits into four branches at a height of one meter, each with a diameter of about one meter. The branching point forms a platform that can accommodate over ten people standing on it. The branches extend outward in all directions, resembling a giant open umbrella with a coverage area of several hundred square meters. It serves as a great spot for passersby to rest, children to play, and elders to enjoy the shade. The ancient pepper tree stands still like an old sentinel of time, quietly witnessing the generations of the Yuduan people living and thriving.
