Banjian Scenic Area

Banjian is located in the northeastern part of Heshi, bordering Huanggang and Huangsha towns. With majestic mountain ridges and beautiful scenery, it integrates Confucian culture, Taoist philosophy, and Buddhist scriptures, making it one of the most prominent sacred sites in Xiushui and even the entire Jiuling Mountain Range (currently receiving 30,000 visitors annually). Dabanjian Peak stands at an elevation of 998 meters, the highest peak in Heshi. From here, you can overlook Xiushui and Tonggu counties during the day, as if controlling boats on a sea of green, and gaze at the lights of countless settlements in the evening, resembling a view of the Milky Way across the sky. Notable local scholars from Xiushui such as Huang Tingjian, Chen Sanli, Zhang Jian, Yu Wangjie, and Wan Chengfeng have all left poetic inscriptions on the mountain. There is also a golden cauldron bestowed by imperial decree during the Xuande era of the Ming Dynasty housed in the temple, as well as the timeless riddle “Dabanjian, Xiaobanjian, Daxiaobanjian are all one single peak,” which has been circulating since the Tang and Song dynasties and invites a matching couplet.
