Xiushui Wenfeng Pagoda

Built during the Tang Dynasty (800 AD), Wenfeng Pagoda is a shining jewel of Xiushui County’s splendid history and culture, as well as a symbol of this millennia-old county town. In the ninth year of the Jiaqing reign (1804) of the Qing Dynasty, Wan Chengfeng, a native of Tangqiao in Xiushui County and tutor to Emperor Daoguang, along with 25 other local gentry, each donated 300 taels of silver to collectively rebuild the pagoda. The pagoda was completed in July of the eleventh year of the Jiaqing reign (1806), and has a history of over 200 years. It is a pavilion-style stone pagoda with a hexagonal base, seven stories tall, and over twenty meters high, featuring windows and doors that allow visitors to climb and enjoy the view. Originally, there was also a Wenchang Pavilion built next to the pagoda. Wenfeng Pagoda has withstood the test of time through many years of wind and rain, standing proudly “to the east of the Dongdu River and on the ridge of Fengzhu,” overlooking the surging Xiushui River flowing eastward.
