Jingyang Mountain

Jingyang Mountain, the former site of Lianxi Academy, was originally named Xiufeng (Elegant Peak). Viewed from the north, its shape resembles a large dumpling, so locals in Xiushui also call it Xiaozishan (Dumpling Mountain). Legend has it that the immortal Xu Xun, also known as Xu Jingyang, once chased a malicious dragon to this area but lost track of it. Worried that the beast might enter the city and harm the people, he climbed to the top of Xiufeng to investigate. From there, he saw that the skies above the town were clear and sunny, with auspicious clouds drifting by, and realized the town was safe. Looking downstream along the river, he noticed a black mist near Shenshinao, realizing the dragon had hidden in the deep pool of Shenshinao. He quickly went to Meiling’s Sword Grinding Pool to sharpen his sword and slay the beast. Later generations, in honor of Xu Jingyang’s heroic act of pursuing the dragon and eliminating the threat, renamed Xiufeng to Jingyang Mountain.
