Former Site of the Northern Jiangxi Special Committee of the CPC

The former site of the Northern Jiangxi Special Committee of the CPC is a cultural relic protection unit of Jiangxi Province and a classic red tourism attraction.

The former site of the Northern Jiangxi Special Committee (Northern Jiangxi Sub-Committee) of the Communist Party of China is located in Zhajin Village, Zhajin Town, Xiushui County.

In December 1930, the Hunan Provincial Committee, aiming to strengthen the leadership over the Party’s work in the counties of northern Jiangxi, decided to assign Zhang Jingwu to form the Northern Jiangxi Special Committee. In January 1931, the Northern Jiangxi Special Committee was officially established, with its offices initially located at Gongxuan Mansion in Shangshan, Xiushui, and later at Kuangshanggeng Mansion in Zhajin. Zhang Jingwu served as the Secretary. At the same time, the Xiushui Central County Committee was abolished and the Xiushui County Committee was established. The Northern Jiangxi Special Committee was under the jurisdiction of the Hunan Provincial Committee Office and governed the county committees of Xiushui, Tonggu, and Wuning, as well as the temporary county committee of Yifeng (which became a full county committee after March of the same year), and the county committee of Tongcheng, Hubei. In March of the same year, when the Hunan-Hubei-Jiangxi Special District Committee of the CPC was established, the Northern Jiangxi Special Committee was renamed the Northern Jiangxi Sub-Committee and came under the Hunan-Hubei-Jiangxi Special District Committee, overseeing four county committees: Xiushui, Yifeng, and Tonggu in Jiangxi, and Tongcheng in Hubei. In August of the same year, the Northern Jiangxi Sub-Committee was abolished, and the Xiushui Central County Committee was reinstated.

The former site of the Northern Jiangxi Special Committee (Northern Jiangxi Sub-Committee) was originally Kuangshanggeng Mansion, a building from the early years of the Republic of China, constructed with brick and wood, covering a floor area of 800 square meters. The exterior walls still preserve Red Army slogans such as “Implement Workers’ and Peasants’ Rights” and “Eliminate the Residual Forces of the Landlord Class.” In September 2007, it was designated as a cultural relic protection unit of Xiushui County by the Xiushui County People's Government.

Zhajin Town: Zhajin Town in Xiushui County is located in the northwestern part of Xiushui County, Jiangxi Province, on the border of northwestern Jiangxi and at the junction of Hunan, Hubei, and Jiangxi provinces. It covers a total area of 144 square kilometers, has a population of 43,600, and governs 25 administrative villages and one neighborhood residents' committee. Zhajin Town features typical Jiangnan hilly terrain, with picturesque natural scenery. It enjoys a subtropical humid climate, crisscrossed by mountains and rivers, fertile land, abundant rainfall, and rich resources. Provincial Highway Kelong runs east-west through the town, and the Xiushui River meanders around, providing very convenient transportation.
