Wannian Shennongyuan is a national scenic area and a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

Wannian Shennongyuan Scenic Area is located at the foot of Huangtian Peak, at the junction of Wannian, Yiyang, and Leping counties (cities) in Jiangxi Province. It is adjacent to the Yiyang–Wannian Highway, 20 km from Wannian County, 50 km from Yiyang County, 130 km from Nanchang City, and 110 km from Shangrao City.

The entire scenic area is surrounded by mountains, featuring beautiful scenery, fresh air, and a pleasant climate. Wannian Shennongyuan Scenic Area consists of three parts: the birthplace of world rice cultivation culture (which includes the Shennong Cave and Diaotonghuan Site—both national key cultural relics protection units—and the Shennong Cave & Diaotonghuan Site Exhibition Hall); China’s most beautiful underground river—Shennong Palace; and China’s first pristine cave exploration experience.

The Shennongyuan Scenic Area showcases the natural beauty of form, motion, color, sound, and misty allure, characterized by novelty, wonder, spirituality, elegance, serenity, and thrill. The whole area has now applied for recognition as a national AAAA-level scenic spot and a national geopark.

Related knowledge: Wannian Shennong Cave is one of the earlier discovered Neolithic sites in China. As early as the early 1960s, two scientific excavations were carried out here, uncovering numerous traces of human activity and a wealth of cultural artifacts, which attracted great attention from scholars both in China and abroad. However, due to significant disagreements over the absolute dating of the site and questions about its primitive economic structure, the value of this site was overlooked for nearly thirty years.
