Buddhist sanctuaries typically give off a solemn and reverent vibe, but this one—Xuan Kong Fa Si (Mystic Void Buddhist Temple), located in Nansi District, Tainan—is truly magnificent. The temple garden is home to a variety of peculiar rocks and stones, especially notable for its naturally harmonious beauty that spans hundreds of millions of years, as well as its uniquely Zen-inspired landscape that attracts many visitors to stroll and take photos.

Established in 1989, Xuan Kong Fa Si covers a vast area of 3 hectares. The temple gardens are beautifully landscaped, offering an atmosphere reminiscent of Japanese gardens with their small bridges and flowing streams. Among its features is a 300- to 400-meter forest trail called the “Path of Life,” which was paved by the monks themselves and is the longest and most beautiful temple trail in Taiwan.
