Dreamy Colorful Lights That Melt Your Heart – The Urban Park Turns Into an Adorable Animal Zone

The “2020 Pingtung Lantern Festival” takes “Forest Animal Party” as its theme, this year planning four major themed lantern areas — “Forest, Ocean, Grassland, and Polar Regions” — turning the banks of Wannian Creek into a nighttime zoo. You can enjoy the lively, festive mood to the fullest.

This year, 20 sets of animal lanterns are scattered across the waters of Wannian Creek and along the boardwalks. Walking by the creek feels like strolling through a forest of light. As you pass under the lanterns hanging from trees along the shore, with a gentle breeze blowing and light and shadow intermingling, they sway gently above the creek.

The lantern festival kicked off at 7:00 PM on January 3rd. In addition to the adorable animal lanterns, the entire venue also plays nature-inspired soft music. There are 20 lantern bases, including deer, owls, and gorillas in the “Forest Area”; giraffes, lions, and kangaroos in the “Grassland Area”; whales and tropical fish in the “Ocean Area”; and polar bears and penguins in the “Polar Region.” Among them, a 10-meter-tall cute giraffe whose head sways from side to side with the music.

This year’s lantern zone stretches from Shengli East Road in Qianxi Park all the way to the stretch of Wannian Creek beside the parking lot of Pingtung Night Market. A wide array of beautiful animal lanterns fills the area. Over one kilometer of tree-wrapped lights are also installed along both sides of the Wannian Creek pathway, decorated in the romantic shades of champagne gold and coral orange. The spectacle is both grand and colorful, just as enchanting as the streetscape of Tokyo’s Roppongi district.
