The Natural Cave Cluster of Nanyan

Within the main 16-square-kilometer scenic area of Nanyan, there are 23 caves, the largest of which covers an area of 1,502 square meters. There are nine caves exceeding 1,000 square meters, and even the smallest is over 100 square meters—truly rare on a national scale. Originally, this area was an inland lake basin. During the Yanshan Movement, a major mountain-building event occurred, forming a small basin. Over time, red fragmented rocks accumulated, and as the Yanshan Movement of the Mesozoic Era intensified, the earth's crust continued to rise, pushing up above the ground and forming mound-like peaks. Through weathering and erosion, the natural cave cluster of Nanyan Scenic Area was formed. Successively, monks established temples such as Nanyan Temple, Longmenyan Temple, and Shuangyan Temple.
