Next to the White Crane Temple in Yiyang County is a place called Chaoshuiyan. At the top of Chaoshuiyan is a sheer cliff dozens of zhang high, and at the base of the cliff, there is suddenly an opening. The opening is an isosceles triangle, with a base length of 3 meters and equal sides of 2 meters. At first glance, it appears to be nothing more than an ordinary spring, but soon you will notice something marvelous: “Suddenly, a hollow sound emerges from the rock, followed by a surging, roaring noise, like galloping horses or spinning wheels. In the blink of an eye, white water surges and green ripples, as if air bursts forth, resembling the tide rushing into a niche like red cliffs. The force of the tidal surge seems almost unstoppable, as if no man could stand against it.” (from the Yiyang County Annals) This is a tidal spring. When the tide recedes, the water that gushes out from the cave is slowly sucked back in. The tides rise and fall all year round without interruption. In the dry season, the water rises and falls every 20–25 minutes, while in the rainy season, it does so every 10–15 minutes.

The pool where the tides rise and fall is within Longqian Pavilion. Every day, curious visitors from all over come to watch the rising waters and pray for blessings from the White Crane Dharma Protector in the pavilion at the White Crane Temple.

The White Crane Temple in Chaoshuiyan Village is the birthplace of the timeless famous couplet: “朝朝朝朝朝朝朝，长长长长长长长” (a play on words meaning “Tides come daily, tides rise and fall”). The White Crane Dharma Protector is also renowned for its spiritual power, especially during its birthday celebration from the 29th day of the seventh lunar month to the 1st day of the eighth lunar month each year.

The White Crane Temple in Yiyang County was renovated and reopened in July 2013 under the leadership of the new abbot, Master Shi Mingzang. From September 4 to 5, 2013, nearly ten thousand worshippers from Sanxianling, Caodi, Zhongfan, and even areas such as Dexing, Wannian, and Leping came to the temple to offer incense and make wishes.
