Former Residence of Shao Shiping

The former residence of Shao Shiping is a cultural relic protection unit of Jiangxi Province.

The former residence of Shao Shiping is located in Shaofan Village, Caixi Town, Yiyang County. Shao Shiping was born on January 27, 1900, in Shaofan Village, Caixi Town, Yiyang County. His family home was an ordinary four-beam farmhouse. In his childhood, he attended a village private school for early education. At the age of 12, he briefly dropped out to work in farming. In 1916, he was admitted to Yiyang County High School. After graduation, he went elsewhere for further studies. He also lived here during school holidays, as well as when he returned to his hometown and engaged in revolutionary activities in the northeast of Jiangxi. During the Agrarian Revolutionary War, his former residence was burned down by the Kuomintang reactionaries. After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, a two-story small building made of cement structure was built on the original site.

Shao Shiping (January 27, 1900 – March 24, 1965), from Shaojiaban, Yiyang County, Jiangxi Province, was an early proletarian revolutionary, military strategist, and renowned leader of the peasant movement in our Party and Army.

Shao Shiping was one of the main leaders of the Yiheng Uprising, one of the founders and leaders of the Min-Zhe-Jiang Soviet Area and the 10th Red Army, as well as one of the founders and key leaders of the Min-Gan Soviet Area.

Biography

Shao’s family had been farmers for generations. His father, Shao Maokui, had five sons and one daughter. Shao Shiping was the third child and was intelligent from a young age. His father passed away when he was ten.
