Zhengyi Immortal Peak

Zhengyi Immortal Peak is a remnant of a collapsed mountain, resembling a fist with four fingers clenched and the thumb raised. "Zhengyi" refers to the Zhengyi Sect of Taoism. Since the mid-Eastern Han Dynasty, when Zhang Daoling founded the Celestial Masters Dao, the doctrines and teachings of Taoism gradually spread from south to north across the country. After the Eastern Jin Dynasty, the Celestial Masters Dao began to branch out. Successively, the Shangqing Sect, Lingbao Sect, and Quanzhen Sect emerged. The Zhengyi Dao, founded by the first Celestial Master Zhang Daoling, has always been highly respected within Taoism as the Orthodox Unity Dao—the true path that vanquishes evil, rectifies spiritual energies, inherits the Three Heavens, assists the nation, protects the people, and establishes a new era of governance. It is regarded as the singular true path among many. Since the Song and Yuan dynasties, the three sacred mountains of Mao, Gezao, and Longhu became unified under the latter, making Longhu Mountain the center of the Zhengyi Sect. Moreover, all Taoist sects in southern China were integrated into the Zhengyi tradition, collectively known as the "Zhengyi Dao." It is said that during the Yuan Dynasty, the 36th Celestial Master Zhang Zongyan, in order to affirm Longhu Mountain’s status as the “leading authority of Taoism in the Jiangnan region,” used his ritual sword to cleave a portion of this mountain, forming a shape resembling a thumb—symbolizing the principle that “the Dao heart is undivided, hence it is the Orthodox One.” This majestic Zhengyi Immortal Peak inspires awe for the prestige and standing of Longhu Mountain within Taoism.
