As the hot summer draws near, the Taipei City Government’s Department of Urban Development’s Geotechnical Engineering Office has specially recommended five fish-watching trails in Taipei City: the “Neigou Streamside Trail” and “Dagou Streamside Trail” in Neihu District, the “Hushan Streamside Trail” in Xinyi District, the “Zhuzihhu Streamside Trail” in Beitou District, and the “Xiaokeng Streamside Trail” in Wenshan District. Each trail takes about 10–20 minutes to walk, each with its own unique features, allowing netizens to watch fish swimming leisurely in the clear streams during the summer, temporarily setting aside their worries, escaping the hustle and bustle of the city, and letting the murmuring streams of the lush mountains soothe the pressures of daily life.

The Geotechnical Engineering Office recommends the “Neigou Streamside Trail” in Neihu District. The Neigou Stream Ecology Exhibition Hall combines local natural ecological resources and stream scenery, becoming the most precious natural material, making it a preferred choice for many schools and groups for outdoor teaching or eco-educational trips. Here, visitors can enjoy birdwatching and fish-watching, observing the beautiful sight of egrets foraging in the stream, and savoring a leisurely time.

Huang Tien-chin, head of the Soil and Water Conservation Section at the Geotechnical Engineering Office, said that the “Hushan Streamside Trail” in Xinyi District features an antique-style arched bridge. From here, you can observe native Taiwanese fish species (such as groupers and gobies) in the stream and egrets foraging around the stream, experiencing a slow-paced lifestyle. Later, you can take a stroll along the Hushan Nature Trail to enjoy the baptism of nature’s phytoncides. Due to the excellent local environment, fireflies can be seen inhabiting the area on summer evenings.

Guo Kun-hsiang, chief of Dahu Village, recommends the “Dagou Streamside Trail” in Neihu District. A walk along the trail, which takes about 15 minutes, offers a rich habitat for wildlife. The stream contains various native fish species (such as Yizhi Xiang), frogs, and butterflies. At the bottom of the trail, there is also a sea of flowers for viewing. On summer nights, visitors can enjoy the sounds of frogs, flowing water, accompanied by dancing fireflies and a sky full of twinkling stars. On this ecologically rich stream trail, you can always expect new surprises.

Cao Chang-cheng, chief of Hutian Village in Beitou District, recommends the “Zhuzihhu Streamside Trail” in Beitou District. The walk takes about 15–20 minutes. It is currently the season when calla lilies are in full bloom. Walking along the streamside trail by the creek allows you to watch fish swimming in the stream and immerse yourself in the white romance of calla lilies, making it suitable for family outings and sightseeing.
