Guta Park

Guta Suburban Park, also known as Guta Park, is situated in Wangsiying Area in the southeastern part of Chaoyang District, Beijing, covering an area of 836 acres.

At the southernmost end of the park stands the "Ten Directions Buddha Treasure Pagoda," an octagonal nine-story dense-eave brick pagoda originally built in 1538 during the Ming Dynasty. It is a municipal-level protected cultural relic in Beijing and has become the symbol of the park, from which the park gets its name, Guta Park.

The park features four main scenic areas: the West Gate Area, Central Lake Area, Mountain Flower Garden, and Guta Area. The Central Lake Area serves as the main scenic zone, named Colorful Spring Flower Garden, and includes attractions such as the King of Flowers Platform, Crabapple Square, pavilion-corridor complexes, and Pingquan Cascading Waters. It organically combines the ecological characteristics of a suburban park with the landscape features of an urban garden park and is fully equipped with environmentally friendly public service facilities. Over 200 varieties of trees, shrubs, and flowers, totaling approximately 220,000 plants, have been planted throughout the park.

Among them, in front of the majestic West Gate lies a hillside flower stand, next to the gate is a tall observation deck, and on the north side of the gate is a sizable free parking lot. The Central Lake Area encompasses the Colorful Spring Flower Garden, King of Flowers Platform, Crabapple Square, pavilion-corridor complexes, and Pingquan Cascading Waters, making it the park’s highlight. Aside from the Ten Directions Buddha Treasure Pagoda, the Central Lake Area is the essence of the park. Strolling through it brings a sense of peace and tranquility, helping one forget all worries. The Mountain Flower Garden blooms with flowers, and stone-paved paths wind through undulating, lush green spaces and trees, with the pagoda’s graceful silhouette visible in the distance.

In most suburban parks, the landscapes are newly constructed, but Guta Suburban Park in Chaoyang District is home to a 400-year-old ancient pagoda. Upon reflection, Beijing has hundreds of parks, large and small, but only this one is named after an ancient pagoda.

Walking in through the East Gate, the park is lush with trees, tranquil in atmosphere, with a gentle breeze brushing against you and small bridges crisscrossing... Take a deep breath, and it feels like your lungs have been cleansed by the greenery—truly refreshing. On the lawns by the paths, a couple of tents have also become picturesque spots. Most visitors bring their own food to play cards or frolic on the grassy lawns by the lake. Some visitors even bring their pets along. Park management informed reporters that pets are currently allowed in the park, but owners must properly clean up after their pets to avoid damaging the environment.

Named after an ancient pagoda, the park indeed houses a genuine ancient pagoda—the Ten Directions Buddha Treasure Pagoda, originally built in 1538 during the Ming Dynasty. This pagoda is not easy to find, tucked away at the southernmost end of the park. It is not very tall and is obscured by dense woods. Without following the signage, it can be somewhat tricky to locate. Reporters observed that visitors to Guta Suburban Park all make their way to the pagoda. Although the pagoda leans slightly and the inscriptions on the steles have become blurred, getting up close to a 400-year-old pagoda within a freshly revitalized suburban park creates a unique sense of time overlapping—perhaps the park’s greatest charm.
