Tianlong Mountain

Tianlong Mountain is located in Shuangkeng Village, Wufeng Town, nestled among rolling hills. It borders Suichuan to the west and is about 15 kilometers from the county seat. The mountain is home to towering ancient trees and endless bamboo groves, earning it the reputation since ancient times of “a thousand wild bamboo clusters reaching the Xiang River.” Legend has it that “Tianlong Mountain existed before Wan’an City,” testifying to its long history and fame.

According to the *Wan’an County Annals*, during the Tang Dynasty, the monk Boundless and another eminent monk worked together on Haishan. One day, their master told them: “The two of you should go to Jiangyou to establish grand monasteries; when you encounter a dragon, stop there.” One of them stopped at Dragon-Encountering Mountain. Monk Boundless traveled alone to what is now within Wan’an County. While begging for alms in the mountains, he encountered two tigresses and, while trying to avoid them, fell into a cave. Villagers rescued him, and upon digging into the earth, they discovered a well and a stone tablet inscribed with the characters “Tian Long” (Heavenly Dragon). Realizing this was also an encounter with a “dragon,” he established a temple here, and from then on, Tianlong Temple became widely renowned.

On the mountainside stand three stupas, exquisitely crafted. Today, one has collapsed, but the top two remain intact. The middle one is inscribed with “Boundless Monk” and stands about 5

meters tall, featuring five tiers of flying eaves and a carved stone round dome. The top one is inscribed with “Ordinary Treasure Pagoda,” stands approximately 10 meters tall, with seven tiers of flying eaves. Each tier is adorned with vividly sculpted bodhisattvas, and the fourth tier bears the bold inscription “Shuangxi Tianlong” (Twin Streams Heavenly Dragon). The mountain also features attractions such as the “Fairy Water Spring,” Drum-Beating Rock, Treasure Cave, waterfalls, and ancient post roads.

Wufeng Town: Wufeng Town in Wan’an County is situated on the western bank of the Gan River. It currently administers 13 administrative villages and 2 community neighborhood committees, covering a total area of 227.13 square kilometers, with the town area spanning 4.54 square kilometers. The total population is 24,4828 households. It is recognized as one of Jiangxi Province’s Top 100 Central Towns and a pilot town for expanded authority and strengthened governance in Ji’an City.
