Former Residence of Kang Keqing

The former residence of Kang Keqing is a cultural relic protection unit of Jiangxi Province.

The former residence of Kang Keqing is located in Dahechang Village, Luotang Township, Wan’an County, Ji’an City, Jiangxi Province, at 26°30′08.8″N, 114°42′13.5″E. Built in the late Qing Dynasty, the residence faces south and is a two-story earthen-structured building with a flush gable roof, consisting of four sections and six rooms. The house covers an area of 74.88 square meters, and the courtyard covers 680 square meters. Kang Keqing was born on September 7, 1911. Forty days later, she was sent to the Luo Qigui family as a "child bride-to-be" and lived in this house for 16 years. In 1928, Kang Keqing and 80 farmers from Wan’an joined Chen Yi’s troops and went up to Jinggangshan. In 1951, she returned to her hometown for the first time after many years away. To avoid troubling the local government, she stayed and ate at the former residence for a week. In 1962, she returned for the second time and stayed for three days. This former residence is now an important site for the public, especially young people, to receive patriotic and revolutionary traditional education. In 1990, the People’s Government of Wan’an County listed the former residence as a county-level cultural relic protection unit. In 1997, it was designated as a county-level patriotism education base. In 2004, an exhibition on the life and deeds of Kang Keqing was displayed in the residence, which has been open to the public free of charge since then.

Luotang Township: Luotang Township is located in the central-western part of Wan’an County. To the east, it faces the Gan River, across from Baijia Town; to the south, it borders Wufeng Town; to the west, it adjoins Yutian Town of Suichuan County; and to the northwest, it neighbors Lutian Town. The township covers a total area of 64.93 square kilometers, including 19,392 mu of arable land, 43,980 mu of mountainous land, and 4,600 mu of fishable water surface. It administers 6 administrative villages with 96 villager groups, 1 neighborhood committee, 3,522 households, and a total population of 14,841. The name “Luotang” comes from Luotang Bay.
