Flying Tower on the Guijiang River

The Flying Tower is located on a flat area at the head of Baiyi Village in Guijiang Township. To its north stands the ancestral hall of the Wukong (note: to be verified) clan, to its south are residential houses, and to its west lies the Suichuan River. The entire tower is built from blue bricks and a mixture of mud and sand, with no base, hollow inside, and without stairs. It has six pointed stories, stands 15 meters tall, and has an external circumference of 9 meters, tapering gradually from the bottom up. Each floor is equipped with two symmetrical arched windows. Standing alongside the ancestral hall, residential houses, woods, and green mountains, it resembles a natural garden, exuding a unique charm. As described in the Baiyi Clan Genealogy by ancient people: “The ancient tower stands like a brush beside the flowing water, truly a magnificent sight in the village!” The Flying Tower is slender in appearance and aesthetically pleasing in design. Judging from its structure and records in the clan genealogy, it is believed to have been built during the Song Dynasty. Although the ancient tower has withstood a thousand years of wind and rain, its surface is weathered and worn, yet it still retains the grandeur of its time. The tower has no foundation, and experts speculate that it may have sunk vertically over the centuries. Legend has it that the Flying Tower flew here from Suichuan during the Song Dynasty. The tower arrived in three sections: the base remained at its original location, the main body landed elsewhere, and the tower’s tail flew to Baiyi, hence the name “Flying Tower.”
