Martyrs' Tomb of Zeng Tianyu

The Martyrs' Tomb of Zeng Tianyu is a cultural relic protection unit of Jiangxi Province.

To better commemorate the martyrs, educate future generations, and fully leverage its unique role in patriotic education, the Martyrs' Tomb of Zeng Tianyu has recently been designated as a Patriotic Education Base in Wan’an County.

Zeng Tianyu was a fellow townsman of Zhu De’s wife, Kang Keqing, and was from Luotang Township, Wan’an County. In his early years, he was admitted to China University in Beijing and later studied in Japan. He was an early revolutionary activist in Jiangxi and, along with Yuan Yubing and Fang Zhimin, was known as one of the “Three Outstanding Revolutionaries of Jiangxi.” In 1925, he returned to his hometown and initiated the peasant movement, leading the famous Wan’an Uprising. On January 9, 1928, the Wan’an Uprising achieved final victory, establishing the first county-level Soviet government in Jiangxi Province. Shortly after the victory, the enemy, unwilling to accept defeat, launched a fierce counterattack, attacking from both Ganzhou and Ji’an to the north and south. They offered large rewards for the capture of the uprising’s key leader, Zeng Tianyu. Due to betrayal, on March 5, 1928, Zeng Tianyu, outnumbered and unable to break through, died a heroic death at the age of 31. His brave and sacrificial revolutionary deeds serve as a profound and vivid living textbook for patriotic education. The Martyrs' Tomb of Zeng Tianyu will become an important site for local residents, especially young people, to receive patriotic education.
