For detailed information on Huangyangjie Pass, please see the dedicated introduction; Shuangmashi Pass sits at an altitude of 1,286 meters and gets its name from two large overlapping rocks on the mountaintop that resemble a pair of galloping horses; the surrounding forests are home to many wild peach trees, whose blossoms bloom as late as the fourth lunar month; Tongmuling Pass is situated at 860 meters above sea level and is covered with tung trees—every year when the tung flowers are in full bloom, they cover the mountainsides; Zhushachong Pass faces Huangyangjie Pass from north to south, and on its steep cliffs flows a stream of red water, which gives the pass its name.

Introduction:

Located around Ciping, these are five key routes leading to Jinggangshan. The mountain peaks are steep, the valleys deep, and the terrain extremely rugged. They are Huangyangjie Pass to the north, Bamianshan Pass to the south, Shuangmashi Pass to the southwest, Zhushachong Pass to the south, and Tongmuling Pass to the east and west. In the deep valleys of these passes, one can often see eagles soaring halfway up the mountains—a truly spectacular sight. All five key passes are now listed as National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units and are open to the public.
