From December 31, 2011 to January 3, 2012, the 5th Sichuan Provincial Middle School Orienteering Championship was held in Leshan. Approved by the Sichuan Provincial Department of Education and organized by the Sichuan Students' Sports and Arts Association, with the Leshan Municipal Education Bureau as the executive organizer and Leshan Foreign Languages School as the co-organizer, the event took place in Leshan.
This edition of the orienteering championship achieved an unprecedented scale, with an anticipated participation of 58 schools, 59 teams, and 1,102 athletes. In reality, over 1,200 athletes from 63 teams representing 62 schools took part, making it the largest Sichuan Provincial Orienteering Championship to date. Relevant leaders from the Ministry of Education, the Sichuan Provincial Department of Education, the Sichuan Provincial Examination Institute, and the Sichuan Provincial Sports Bureau visited Leshan to inspect the competitions. The host city’s school teams performed excellently, with a total of 83 participants successfully passing relevant test events.
Liu Jiandan, Director of the Leshan Municipal Education Bureau, served as the head of the competition organizing committee, while Deputy Director Zhang Hong actively coordinated support from relevant departments. The Leshan Public Security Bureau Traffic Police Brigade, Transportation Management Bureau, Food and Drug Administration, the Gaoshanpu Village where the venue was located, Chengdu University of Technology College of Engineering Technology, and Xiaoba Community Hospital all provided comprehensive support in ensuring safety, transportation, catering, and access to the competition venues, guaranteeing the smooth running of the championship.
As a co-organizer, Leshan Foreign Languages School committed its entire faculty and staff to the event, diligently providing on-campus competition venues, meals, accommodation, and reception services. Their efforts were highly commended by all participating teams and frequently praised by visiting inspection leaders.
