The Bijia Mountain Scenic Area consists of three parts: Bijia Mountain, Zhusha Chong, and Huang’ao.

Bijia Mountain is located 35 kilometers southwest of Ciping, at an elevation of 1,357 meters. It is primarily made up of three main peaks

(Yangmei Peak), the western peak (Wangzhi Peak), and the eastern peak (Guandao Peak), forming the shape of the Chinese character “山” (mountain). Viewed from afar, it looks like an ancient brush rest, hence the name Bijia Mountain (Brush Rest Mountain). The entire Bijia Mountain Scenic Area is a combination of natural and cultural landscapes, but Bijia Mountain itself is predominantly a natural landscape. It is majestic and grand, lush and steep, winding and rugged, with breathtaking scenery. Notable attractions include seven major peaks, five spectacular wonders, as well as over ten other sites such as the Large and Small Pine Islands.

Zhusha Chong Outpost is located south of Ciping, at an elevation of 635 meters. It is one of the five major outposts of the Jinggangshan military base area. Beside the outpost is a cave from which cinnabar-colored water often seeps out. This is the origin of the name Zhusha Chong (Cinnabar Outpost).

Huang’ao is known as the southern gateway to the Jinggangshan Revolutionary Base. During the revolutionary struggle in Jinggangshan, Mao Zedong, Zhu De, and the Red Army frequently carried out revolutionary activities here.

Jinggangshan Nature Reserve: Established in 1981, the Jinggangshan Nature Reserve was approved as a national nature reserve in April 2000, covering a total area of 15,873 hectares. It is a forest ecological-type nature reserve, primarily aimed at protecting the mixed mountain forest ecosystem and rare wildlife resources. The area features a closed terrain with complex landforms, including over 50 peaks above 1,000 meters in elevation. The mountains are towering and the valleys crisscrossed, with the main peak Ping Shui Shan reaching 1,779 meters in height. There is a clear vertical differentiation in climate, vegetation, and soil.
