On October 3, 1927, Mao Zedong led the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Revolutionary Army here from Sanwan, where he presided over an expanded meeting of the Front Committee that day. The meeting reviewed the experiences and lessons of the Autumn Harvest Uprising in Hunan and Jiangxi, decided on the strategy of uniting and reforming the two local armed forces led by Yuan Wencai and Wang Zuo, and made the strategic decision to establish a revolutionary base in the middle section of the Luoxiao Mountains, historically known as the "Ancient City Conference."
On October 3, 1927, Comrade Mao Zedong led the Workers' and Peasants' Revolutionary Army here from Sanwan, where he presided over an expanded meeting of the Front Committee that day. Attendees included members of the Front Committee, Party cadres above the company level of the Workers' and Peasants' Revolutionary Army, responsible persons from the Ninggang County Party organization, and a representative of Yuan Wencai, totaling more than forty people. The meeting lasted three days, reviewed the experiences and lessons of the Autumn Harvest Uprising, discussed establishing a base in the middle section of the Luoxiao Mountains, launching armed struggle, and striving to reform the two local armed forces led by Yuan Wencai and Wang Zuo.
The Ancient City Conference was a continuation and development of the Front Committee Meeting at Sanwan. This meeting determined the strategy of carrying out workers' and peasants' armed separatism in the border region of Hunan and Jiangxi, laying the foundation for the subsequent establishment of the Jinggangshan Revolutionary Base and the shift in the focus of work by our Party.
On May 10, 1929, the Fourth Plenary Session of the Second Executive Committee of the Special Committee of the Hunan-Jiangxi Border Region was held in the central hall of the Liankui Academy, chaired by Deng Qianyuan, Secretary of the Special Committee. The meeting comprehensively analyzed the political, military, and land issues in the border region; based on instructions from a letter of the Front Committee, it introduced the work experience of the Donggu Base; formulated a guerrilla outline and divided the guerrilla zones; due to developments in the situation, Yongxin had a broader rural base of mass support, and the meeting also proposed moving the command center of the border region from the mountains to the lower areas.
Since many members of the previous executive committee were not in the border region, standing committee members were added, resulting in a new executive committee composed of fifteen members: Deng Qianyuan, Liu Tiangan, Chen Zhengren, Liu Zhen, Tan Sicong, Teng Daiyuan, Peng Dehuai, Zhu Changxie, Wan Xixian, Zhu Yiyue, Long Chaoqing, Wang Zuonong, Zhou Li, and Su Ruilan. The standing committee was reorganized, and five comrades—Deng Qianyuan, Liu Tiangan, Liu Zhen, and Tan Sicong—were re-elected to form the standing committee of the Special Committee, with Deng Qianyuan as Secretary, Liu Tiangan as Deputy Secretary and Organization Committee member, Liu Zhen as Propaganda Committee member, and Chen Zhengren as Secretary-General. The Fourth Plenary Session of the Second Executive Committee of the Special Committee of the Hunan-Jiangxi Border Region was also a highly significant meeting, laying a solid foundation for the establishment of the Hunan-Jiangxi Revolutionary Base. From then on, the revolutionary base in the Hunan-Jiangxi border region gradually developed on the foundation of the Jinggangshan Revolutionary Base.
