Shuikou Rainbow Waterfall

The Shuikou Rainbow Waterfall in Jinggangshan is one of the two major waterfalls in the area. It is located on the left side of Wuzhi Peak in Jinggangshan, Jiangxi Province. The waterfall is formed where two massive natural rocks create the appearance of a giant mouth, which swallows the combined flow of two mountain streams descending from Shuangma Stone and Bamian Mountain. Then, the unified stream of water bursts violently from the "mouth" and cascades down the steep cliffs, spraying beads of water and tumbling jade-like droplets through the air before finally forming the spectacular trapezoidal waterfall we see — 96 meters high and over 10 meters wide. This is how the site got its name, Shuikou (Mouth of Water).

From 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. during summer, sunlight shining on the waterfall creates a seven-colored rainbow that overlaps within the falling water. The rainbow shimmers in brilliant colors and shifts positions as visitors move up or down the stone steps. When you walk up the stairs, the rainbow appears above the upper part of the waterfall; when you descend, it shows up below the lower part.

At the base of the waterfall, there is also a natural rock basin with a pool of clear, blue-green water where several stone turtles swim freely. Not far from the Rainbow Waterfall, there is an observation deck where you can view the waterfall and also gaze at Jinggangshan’s main peak — Wuzhi Peak.

Tip: Every April and May, the Shuikou Rainbow Waterfall is one of the best spots to view azaleas.

Ticket Information:

No separate ticket required. The waterfall is included in the Jinggangshan Scenic Area admission. The Jinggangshan ticket costs 190 RMB, plus 70 RMB for the eco-friendly shuttle bus, valid for 5 days (extension available upon request).
