Jinggangshan Reunion Square
The Reunion Square is situated on the eastern side of the Longjiang River in Longshi. On May 4, 1928, over 20,000 people gathered here for a grand military-civilian assembly to celebrate the reunion of the two armies and the establishment of the Fourth Army of the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army (later renamed the Fourth Army of the Chinese Red Army). At that time, this area was a sandbar, and the platform for the meeting was built using bamboo tubs, wood, and door panels, covered with sunning mats. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, the site was restored to its original appearance, and a bronze statue of Mao Zedong and Zhu De shaking hands was erected in front of the platform to commemorate the reunion of Zhu and Mao and the birth of the Fourth Red Army.
The square's layout is symmetrically arranged along an east-west axis from north to south. From front to back, it includes the bronze statue platform area, the flagpole platform area, and the main assembly area. The surrounding areas consist of pedestrian walkways and green spaces, with parking lots located on the east and west sides of the flagpole platform.
The bronze statue platform covers an area of 2,000 square meters, with the statue base at its center. Surrounding the base are liquid fountains, and atop the base stands a bronze statue of Mao Zedong and Zhu De shaking hands. The statue was designed by Professor Hong Tao from the Luxun Academy of Fine Arts in Shenyang and cast by Dalian Jinhe Bronze Art Co., Ltd. in Liaoning. The material of the statue is tin bronze. The statue of Zhu and Mao consists of three parts: the base, the pedestal, and the statue itself. The base is 2.8 meters high, symbolizing the year 1928 when Zhu and Mao reunited; the pedestal is 49 centimeters high, representing the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949; the statue itself is 5.9 meters tall, signifying that it was cast 59 years after the founding of the nation; the statue weighs 5.4 tons, marking the date of the reunion on May 4, 1928.
At the front center of the flagpole platform stands a flagpole flying the flag of the Fourth Army of the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army. The main assembly area is 80 meters long from north to south and 80 meters wide from east to west, symbolizing the 80th anniversary of the birth of the Fourth Red Army. A distinctive dry fountain water feature is set along the central axis, featuring 298 water nozzles on the panel, with the central water jet reaching a height of 19.28 meters, symbolizing the convergence of Zhu De and Mao Zedong's forces in Jinggangshan in 1928. The northern end of the main assembly area is the platform, reconstructed in the style of the original platform made from bamboo tubs, sunning mats, and door panels.
