Former Site of the Officers' Training Corps of the Fourth Red Army of China

The Former Site of the Officers' Training Corps of the Fourth Red Army of China is a cultural relic protection unit of Jiangxi Province.

The Officers' Training Corps of the Fourth Red Army was located in Dianshang Village, Ciping. Its predecessor was the Officers' Training Corps of the Workers’ and Peasants’ Revolutionary Army, established in December 1927 at the Longjiang Academy in Longshan, Ninggang County (now Lóngshāng), by the First Regiment of the First Brigade of the First Division of the First Army of the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Revolutionary Army. At that time, Lü Chi served as the head of the corps.

In April 1928, after the successful meeting of Mao Zedong’s and Zhu De’s forces on Jinggang Mountain, the Fourth Red Army of China was established. Soon after, the former Officers' Training Corps was renamed the “Officers' Training Corps of the Fourth Red Army of China.” It was relocated from Ninggang to Dianshang Village in Ciping, Jinggang Mountain. Liang Jun served as the head, Cai Huowen as the Party representative, Zhou Zikun as the deputy head, and comrades such as Chen Bojun, Chen Shiju, and Zhang Lingbin successively served as section heads and instructors. In the winter of the same year, after Peng Dehuai led the Fifth Red Army to Jinggang Mountain, following the decision of the Jinggang Mountain Front Committee of the Chinese Communist Party, the first formal military school of the Chinese Red Army—the Jinggang Mountain Red Army School—was established on the basis of the Officers' Training Corps of the Fourth Red Army. The school was located at Huangzhuyao in Ciping, Jinggang Mountain, with Peng Dehuai serving as the president, and Liu Zhizhi, Wang Zhancheng, and others as instructors.

The main tasks of the Training Corps were to train junior officers of the Red Army and to provide instruction for local Red Guards commanders. Teaching conditions were extremely harsh—there were no fixed classrooms, so classes were often held outdoors; there were no pens, ink, or paper, so students used tree branches or charcoal sticks to write on the ground, stone slabs, or sand tables; there were no dormitories, so students stayed in the homes of local residents or slept on the floor of ancestral halls and temples. Despite these difficult conditions, the students studied diligently while also participating in production labor, conducting rural surveys, and sometimes joining military operations. The establishment of the Training Corps played an important role in training a large number of military and political cadres for the Red Army and local forces, and in consolidating and developing the Jinggang Mountain Revolutionary Base.

On March 4, 1961, the State Council designated the “Former Site of the Officers' Training Corps of the Fourth Red Army of China in Ciping” as a Major Historical and Cultural Site Protected at the National Level.

Ciping Town: Ciping Subdistrict is located in the central scenic area of Ciping within the Jinggang Mountain Scenic Area in Jinggangshan City, Jiangxi Province. The subdistrict covers an area of approximately 3.8 square kilometers and has a population of 20,098 residents (according to data from the Sixth National Population Census, including 14,459 permanent residents) across 6,036 households. The area includes four community neighborhood committees. Administratively, it borders forest farms under the jurisdiction of the Jinggang Mountain Administration Bureau and the Jinggang Mountain Nature Reserve Administration Bureau. To the west is the Dajing Forest Farm, to the south the Zhusha Forest Farm, and to the north and east the Ciping Forest Farm.
