Former Site of the Public Sales Office of the Gongnongbing Government of the Xin-Sui Border Special District

Located in Dianshang Village, Ciping. During the arduous years of the struggle on Jinggangshan, the reactionary Kuomintang sought to strangle the Chinese revolution by imposing a tight economic blockade on Jinggangshan, prohibiting the transport of various daily necessities onto the mountain. As a result, essential items such as salt, cloth, and medicinal supplies within the revolutionary base were in severe shortage, and the daily lives of the Red Army and local people faced great hardships. To break the enemy’s economic blockade and resolve the living difficulties of soldiers and civilians, the Front Committee, with Mao Zedong as its secretary, formulated policies such as “protecting small and medium-sized merchants in their trading,” and decided to abolish all exorbitant taxes and levies, implementing the principle of fair trade. They encouraged small and medium-sized merchants from both inside and outside the base to come to Jinggangshan to trade. In the summer of 1928, the Gongnongbing Government of the Xin-Sui Border Special District decided to establish a public sales office in each of the ten townships under its jurisdiction, while also founding this special district public sales office in Dianshang Village, Ciping.

The goods at the public sales office mainly came from the purchase of various local specialty products within the base, encouraging small and medium-sized merchants to smuggle essential items such as salt, medicinal supplies, and cloth from the White areas up the mountain. Some of the spoils captured by the Red Army on the battlefield were also included. These items were gathered at the public sales office and then sold at fair prices to soldiers and civilians in the base for their use. Under the extremely difficult material conditions of the time, the public sales office played an important role in stabilizing market prices, promoting the exchange of materials both inside and outside the base, invigorating the economy of the red region, and resolving the living difficulties of soldiers and civilians.

On March 4, 1961, the State Council announced the “Former Site of the Public Sales Office of the Gongnongbing Government of the Xin-Sui Border Special District” as a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit. The people of Jinggangshan restored it to its original appearance and officially opened it to the public.

Ciping Town: Ciping Subdistrict is located in the central scenic area of Ciping, Jinggangshan Scenic Area, Jinggangshan City, Jiangxi Province. It covers an area of approximately 3.8 square kilometers, with 6,036 households and a total population of 20,098 (according to data from the Sixth National Population Census, including 14,459 permanent residents). The subdistrict has four community neighborhood committees. Administratively, it borders the forest farms under the jurisdiction of the Jinggangshan Administration Bureau and the Jinggangshan Nature Reserve Administration Bureau. To the west, it neighbors the Dajing Forest Farm; to the south, it is adjacent to the Zhusha Forest Farm; and to the northeast, it borders the Ciping Forest Farm.
