Former Site of the Hunan-Jiangxi Border Defense Committee

The Former Site of the Hunan-Jiangxi Border Defense Committee is a cultural relic protection unit of Ji’an City.

The Hunan-Jiangxi Border Defense Committee was located in Dianshang Village, Ciping. To strengthen internal defense within the revolutionary base and ensure the smooth progress of all work at the rear base.

In May 1928, shortly after the establishment of the Hunan-Jiangxi Border Soviet Government, a Defense Office was set up within the government, with Military Minister Zhang Ziqing also serving as its head. Thereafter, as the base area developed and the revolutionary struggle deepened, in July of the same year, the Hunan-Jiangxi Border Defense Committee was formed on the basis of the Defense Office. Wang Zuo served as director, Deng Yunting as Party representative, and the office was located in Dianshang Village, Ciping.

After its establishment, the Defense Committee frequently convened joint defense meetings with responsible officials from counties within the base area, arranged and inspected defense work across regions, organized Young Pioneers and Children’s Corps from various counties to stand guard and keep watch, checked the travel passes of people entering and leaving the base, and strictly prevented enemy spies from carrying out sabotage activities. It mobilized uprising squads and Red Guards from various counties to cooperate with the main forces of the Red Army in combat, established relay sentry posts within the base area for communication and liaison, and mobilized the masses to prepare military supplies, build fortifications at strategic passes, stockpile military provisions, construct hospitals for the Red Army, and establish mints, clothing factories, and saltpeter-salt workshops. It also regularly assigned personnel to guard the Five Major Passes. All these efforts contributed significantly to ensuring the security of the base area and advancing its various undertakings.

In September 1988, the People’s Government of Jinggangshan City designated the “Former Site of the Hunan-Jiangxi Border Defense Committee” as a municipal-level cultural relic protection unit and restored it to its original appearance for public access.

Ciping Town: Ciping Subdistrict is located in the central scenic area of Ciping, a core part of the Jinggangshan Scenic Area in Jinggangshan City, Jiangxi Province. The subdistrict covers an area of approximately 3.8 square kilometers, with 6,036 resident households and a total population of 20,098 (according to data from the Sixth National Population Census, including 14,459 permanent residents). The area includes four community neighborhood committees. Administratively, it borders forest farms under the jurisdiction of the Jinggangshan Administration Bureau and the Jinggangshan Nature Reserve Administration Bureau. To the west is the Dajing Forest Farm, to the south is the Zhusha Forest Farm, and to the northeast is the Ciping Forest Farm.
