Former Site of the Red Fourth Army Headquarters in Longshi
Located in the former "Liu Desheng Pharmacy." During the struggle on Jinggang Mountain, Mao Zedong and Zhu De once lived and worked here. The headquarters of the Red Fourth Army, as well as the original Ninggang County Committee of the Chinese Communist Party and the County Youth League Committee, were also based here. The signs on the walls on both sides of the gate, reading “Ninggang County Committee of the Chinese Communist Party” and “Ninggang County Committee of the Communist Youth League of China,” are original items preserved from that time. After the Red Army left the base area, local residents plastered the walls with yellow mud to prevent enemy damage. After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the locals washed off the yellow mud to preserve these inscriptions to this day.
On May 4, 1928, after the establishment of the Red Fourth Army in Longshi, its headquarters was set up in the back hall of this building. At that time, under the leadership of the headquarters, the Red Fourth Army successively deployed several battles including those at Wudoujiang, Longyuan Kou, and Qixiling, ushering the Jinggang Mountain Revolutionary Base Area into its most prosperous period. Back then, the headquarters staff worked at desks pieced together from several square tables. Usually, only a few people remained to handle daily affairs, while the majority went deep into the companies to carry out their work.
At the same time, the offices of the original Ninggang County Committee of the Chinese Communist Party and the County Youth League Committee were also located on the upper floor of this building. In February 1928, after Mao Zedong led the Workers' and Peasants' Revolutionary Army to capture Xincheng, the county seat of Ninggang, and liberate the entire county, the Ninggang County Committee and the Ninggang County Youth League Committee were announced established on the 21st at Longshi Square. The offices of both committees were located here. Comrade Long Chaoqing served as the Secretary of the Ninggang County Committee of the Chinese Communist Party. The County Committee had propaganda, organization, and military commissioners, and the county was divided into four districts — Longshi, Xincheng, Gucheng, and Dalong — with 39 village party branches. The County Youth League Committee had seven standing committee members in charge of organization, propaganda, military affairs, finance, and inspection, with Comrade Xiao Zinan serving as the secretary. During the struggle, the Youth League organization continued to grow. By June 1928, there were over 20 Youth League branches and more than 1,200 members in the county. Since its establishment, the Ninggang County Committee of the Chinese Communist Party led the people throughout the county in carrying out in-depth land revolution and armed struggle. The County Youth League Committee also actively cooperated with the County Committee, leading and organizing youth to join the army and fight, deliver documents, scout enemy information, assist in land tax collection, and more. It played the role of a capable assistant to the Party during the struggle.
This historical site is now a municipal-level cultural relics protection unit.
