Jinggangshan Revolutionary Base Martyrs' Cemetery

The Jinggangshan Revolutionary Base Martyrs' Cemetery is located on the Longjiang River in Longshi Town and was built in 1986. Nestled within the scenic Wuhuling area of Longshi, the cemetery has, from 1986 to the present, enshrined the partial ashes of 16 generals and marshals who came from Jinggangshan, and also reinterred the remains of six renowned local martyrs, including Yuan Wencai. Among these revolutionary martyrs, there are four Party and state leaders (Chen Yi, Tan Zhenlin, Teng Daiyuan, --); two senior generals (Zhu Liangcai, Chen Shiji); two lieutenant generals (Tan Furen, Yang Meisheng); two national ministry-level officials (Chen Zhengren, Liu Xing); six senior military officers at the army level or above (four of whom were conferred the rank of major general); as well as other notable martyrs of the time. These revolutionary predecessors once fought on this red soil and held deep affection for the place. Even after their passing, they remained attached to this land, wishing to be forever with the people of Jinggangshan. Due to the cemetery’s unique status—being unparalleled across China and of exceptional significance—it has drawn widespread attention both domestically and internationally, and has become an educational base for many military academies and universities in China. It has been designated as a Jiangxi Provincial Patriotic Education Base and a Key Protected Unit of Revolutionary Martyrs’ Memorial Structures in Jiangxi Province.

Today, the surrounding hills have been planned with commemorative facilities, including the -- Memorial Monument, the Zhu Liangcai Memorial Monument, and the Lai Chunfeng and Liu Ziyun Memorial Pavilion.

Longshi Town: The seat of the county government. In 1950, it was divided into Longshi Town and Zhuangqian Township; in 1958, they were merged into Longshi Commune; and in 1984, Longshi Town was re-established. Located in the western part of the county, it covers an area of 33.3 square kilometers, with a population of 17,000, predominantly Han Chinese, along with four ethnic minorities: Manchu, Hui, and Miao. The town government is based in Longshi. National Highway 319 and the Ningyan Highway intersect within the town. It administers the Longshi Residential Committee and four village committees: Longshi, Zhuangqian, Xianggongmiao, and Shipi. The Longjiang River flows from southeast to northeast through the town. The main agricultural products are rice and vegetables. Xipi and Xianggongmiao are known for their tea oil production and are hailed as the town’s “two major oil reservoirs”...
