Xingzhou is located to the south of Ciping, the center of the Jinggangshan Revolutionary Base, and about five kilometers from Zhushachong Outpost. An old folk song from early days in Jinggangshan goes, “Xingzhou is the prefecture, Ciping the county, and the Greater and Lesser Wujing the imperial palaces.” This indicates that Xingzhou was a relatively large village on Jinggangshan. Mao Zedong, Zhu De, and others once lived here.

The Fourth Red Army of China, led by Mao Zedong and Zhu De, “wrote slogans on every wall they passed.” Between May and June 1928, the Fourth Red Army wrote over thirty slogans on the walls of this building, promoting the platform of the Communist Party of China, the aims of the Red Army, and various policies, while exposing the crimes of the reactionary Kuomintang. Some of the slogans here also reflect the “Left” erroneous ideologies that existed within the Party and the Army at the time.

In January 1929, after the Fourth Red Army marched toward southern Jiangxi and western Fujian, Jinggangshan suffered severe devastation by the reactionary Kuomintang. Under their inhumane policy of “chopping every stone, burning every blade of grass, and exterminating the population,” many villages on Jinggangshan were burned down. The slogans on this building are the only ones fully preserved within the Five Great Outposts. They serve as a precious historical testament to the struggles on Jinggangshan and as important cultural relics for studying that period.

In 1973, the Jinggangshan Revolutionary Museum discovered that this building retained Red Army slogans. At the time, the slogans were covered with dirt, but once the dirt was washed away, the inscriptions became clearly visible again. In 1982, the Jinggangshan Revolutionary Museum organized efforts to restore the collapsed sections and implemented protective measures such as reinforcement.

In 2000, with the approval of the People’s Government of Jiangxi Province, the Site of Red Army Slogans in Xingzhou, Jinggangshan, was designated as a Jiangxi Provincial Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.
