The 18 residences had deteriorated due to prolonged exposure to sea winds, and their original appearance had become rundown. In 1979 (the 68th year of the Republic of China), after restoration and renovation by the Kinmen County Government, it was officially named the Folk Culture Village. It is divided into seven exhibition areas: the Folklore Museum, the Etiquette Museum, the Celebration Museum, the Leisure Museum, the Martial Arts Museum, the Production Museum, and the Historic Official Residence. The village is neatly planned and also features souvenir shops for visitors to browse.
