Xiandong Pujie Scenic Area

Xiandong Pujie Scenic Area is a national AAA-level tourist attraction.

Located in Penghu Town, Yongchun County, it combines the renowned Taoist mountain Xiandong Mountain and the thousand-year-old Pujie Temple. The lush subtropical evergreen broadleaf forest of Xiandong Mountain shelters an ancient temple — the Yan Emperor Temple, which was first built in the late Southern Chen Dynasty and has a history of over 1,000 years, enshrining the God of Agriculture, Shennong. After visiting, Zhu Xi, a Neo-Confucian scholar of the Southern Song Dynasty, wrote the verse “Waterfalls cascade like flying ribbons from a thousand fathoms; clusters of settlements look like paintings.” The summit features uniquely shaped rocks, resembling Laozi reciting scriptures, whose charm rivals that of the Laojun Rock on Qingyuan Mountain in Quanzhou. Beyond Xiandong Mountain lie competing peaks, dense forests, swaying green bamboo, blooming meadows, and clear mountain springs, forming a picturesque landscape. The esteemed Pujie Chan Monastery, hailed as the “Foremost Temple in the Peach Blossom Land,” is nestled here. The stunning scenery has attracted countless notable figures throughout history. In modern times, a revered monk resided here for a year and a half, secluded in meditation and strict discipline, dedicating himself to scripture writing, and even spent his 60th birthday at Pujie Temple.
