As the weather gradually turns cooler, it’s time to warm up your body with some nourishing food. Hidden in the back alley behind MRT Yongchun Station on Linkou Street, there’s a long-established local eatery highly recommended by residents and drivers alike. Whether it’s mealtime or not, the place is always packed, and there’s no shortage of people lining up for takeout.

The shop is often fully booked, but food lovers are willing to wait in line for this bowl of sesame oil soup and braised pork rice. (Photo credit: Sesame oil pork kidney, same below)

Shi’s Sesame Oil Pork Kidney is located on Linkou Street in Yongchun, but due to its location down a narrow alley and limited parking, it’s recommended to go by scooter or public transport. The shop mainly offers two types of soup: sesame oil-based and clear broth. You can choose from ingredients such as heart, liver, tripe, and pork kidney. Though the shop may look ordinary at first glance, most who try it once find themselves coming back for more.

All ingredients used are extremely fresh and sold out by the end of the day.

The cooking area is right at the entrance, where you can see the owner preparing the offal. Once inside, you order and the chef cooks it fresh for you. All the pork offal is purchased daily, ensuring top freshness. Due to the constant stream of customers, arriving late might mean missing out on your desired ingredients.

The shop’s signature sesame oil pork kidney soup warms you right up from the inside.

The dining space is small, but the turnover rate is very high, so you usually won’t have to wait long to be seated. Most people come just to fill up quickly, so lingering isn’t really an option. Prices are very affordable, making it a go-to spot for locals having dinner here regularly.

The shop’s must-try signature dish is the braised pork rice.

And speaking of must-orders, the braised pork rice is absolutely not to be missed—rich in flavor, tender and juicy, with melt-in-your-mouth chunks of pork that pair perfectly with rice. The shop also offers a selection of side dishes. If you’re unsure what to get, just go for a bowl of braised pork rice and your choice of soup. One bite and you’ll not only satisfy your taste buds, but also feel comfortably warmed from the inside out.
