Dongxi Grand Canyon

Dongxi Grand Canyon is located in Chengxiang Township, Yongchun County, nestled within the Snow Mountain—the highest peak in Yongchun—and is the source of the Dongxi River, the mother river of Quanzhou. It lies 36 kilometers from the county seat, bordering Sukeng Town to the east, Jindou Town to the west, Penghu Town to the south, and Xunzhong Town and Gaide Township of Dehua County to the north. The area features high mountains and deep valleys, lush forests, and fresh air. The terrain slopes from north to south, with an average annual temperature of 19.3°C, 286 frost-free days per year, 212 foggy days annually, average annual rainfall of 1,800 mm, and an average relative humidity of 78%. It enjoys a mid-subtropical climate and remains cool all year round. The canyon stretches 3,800 meters, characterized by high mountains, clear waters, towering cliffs, cascading waterfalls, uniquely shaped rocks, and verdant trees, making it the most distinctive canyon landscape in southern Fujian. In summer, the average temperature ranges between 20°C and 25°C, earning it the title of “southern Fujian’s No. 1 summer retreat.” “The Dongxi River of the Jinjiang has its magic, and the Snow Mountain scenery stands supreme.”

The scenery here is unique, renowned for its waterfalls and peculiar rocks. At the canyon’s end, the Bailong Waterfall plunges 70 meters, with Snow Mountain’s waters cascading down powerfully. Further downstream, clusters of waterfalls such as the Triple Falls, Fushou Spring, and Qin Spring form, each twisting and turning, gracefully subtle, or crashing against the rocks—each more breathtaking than the last. Within the valley, hundred-meter-high cliffs rise abruptly toward the sky, dotted with bizarre rocks and caves. Highlights include scenes like the Carp Leaping Over the Dragon Gate, Guanyin’s Seat, the Young Monk Listening to Scriptures, the Immortal Bridge, and the Immortal Gate. Most astonishing are the numerous turtle-shaped rocks—ninety-nine in total—that appear in various poses: lying, standing, walking… Truly a “world of turtles valley.”

: Take a bus from Quanzhou Bus Station to Dehua, with fares ranging from 30–40 yuan. The high-speed route takes about one hour to reach downtown Dehua. From Dehua, which is approximately 20 kilometers from Yongchun County, take a taxi to the scenic area.

① Take the Quanzhou–Sanming Expressway and exit at Penghu or Dapu, then head toward Chengxiang. The distance to Dongxi Grand Canyon is about 10 kilometers.

② Travel from downtown Yongchun via Penghu to Chengxiang’s Dongxi Grand Canyon, a distance of about 33 kilometers.
