The Xiu Jue Hall

The Xiu Jue Hall is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Fujian Province.

The Xiu Jue Hall is located at No. 281, Liuan Community, Taocheng Town, Yongchun County, and dates back to the Qing Dynasty.

Description: Originally built during the Tang Dynasty, it was expanded in the fourth year of the Jingde era (1007) under Emperor Zhenzong of the Song Dynasty. In the 39th year of the Jiajing era (1560) during the Ming Dynasty, part of it was burned down by Japanese pirates. It was renovated in the year Ding Si of the Qianlong reign (1737) during the Qing Dynasty, covering an area of 1,257.12 square meters. Facing south and backed by the north, the hall complex consists of a front courtyard, lower main gate, central courtyard, wing rooms, main hall, rear veranda, backyard, silver room, and a connecting corridor. The front courtyard features flagpoles and a Sun-Moon Well. Both Liu Congxiao, the military governor of Qingyuan during the Five Dynasties period and the Prince of Jinjiang, as well as Liu Zheng, who served as chancellor through the reigns of Emperors Xiaozong, Guangzong, and Ningzong of the Song Dynasty, were born here.

Protected area: An additional 20 meters outward from all sides of the building.

In 2018, the Xiu Jue Hall was designated as part of the ninth batch of provincial-level cultural heritage sites by the People’s Government of Fujian Province.

Liuan Community: Located southeast of Yongchun County’s urban area, at the southern foot of Liuan Mountain and on the northern bank of the Taotan River, the upper reaches of the Jinjiang River, Liuan Community in Taocheng Town has a long-established foundation and rich cultural heritage. The area is home to the Shiyu Cave, a sacred Taoist site, and the historic Liuan Pagoda. Historically, notable figures such as Liu Congxiao, the Prince of Jinjiang from the Northern Song Dynasty, and Liu Zheng, a chancellor of the Southern Song Dynasty, emerged from this community. The community administers 10 resident groups, with a current total population of 1,956. The local Party branch currently has 48 members.
