Houlong Academy

Houlong Academy is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Fujian Province.

Houlong Academy is located in Houlong Village, Wufeng Town, Yongchun County, dating back to the Qing Dynasty.

Introduction: It consists of Zhuyuan Studio and Guixuan Studio. Zhuyuan Studio was built in the third year of the Qianlong reign (1738), and Guixuan Studio was constructed during the Jiaqing era (1796–1820), forming a garden-style academy. Originally there were eighteen halls; the surviving ones include the upper and lower halls, side halls, east and west halls, two halls beneath the steps, the Confucius Hall, and the side halls of Guixuan. There is also a pond in the courtyard with a stone bridge built over it.

Protected area: The building is surrounded by a buffer zone extending 20 meters outward in all directions.

In 2018, Houlong Academy was designated as part of the ninth batch of provincial-level cultural heritage sites by the People’s Government of Fujian Province.

Houlong Village: Located northwest of Wufeng Town, Houlong Village borders Sukeng Town to the north and intersects with Wuzhong Village to the east, about 6 kilometers from the town center. The village is equipped with facilities such as an elementary school and leisure areas for farmers. Key agricultural products include mandarin oranges and longan. For many years, the village’s Party committee and government have adhered to the guidance of the “-” core ideology, focused on the goal of enriching the village and strengthening its people, seized the historical opportunity of developing the Economic Zone on the West Coast of the Taiwan Straits, strengthened leadership, organized teams, clarified strategies, improved systems, and optimized mechanisms, thereby fostering a positive working environment that has driven the village’s economic development and the advancement of public welfare projects...
