Yongchun Red Army Martyrs' Monument

The Yongchun Red Army Martyrs' Monument is a classic site of red tourism.

The Red Army Martyrs' Monument is located on the hill behind Hengkou Middle School in Fuzhong Village, Hengkou Township, Yongchun County.

On August 22, 1929, Zhu De led the Fourth Red Army to Fuding in Yongchun County (now Fuzhong, Huanfeng, and Fulian Villages of Hengkou Township) to carry out revolutionary activities. Due to being obstructed by troops under warlord Lu Xingbang at Shipaige in Datian earlier, some soldiers were wounded, and with the peak of summer, malaria and dysentery were prevalent, resulting in many illnesses among the officers and soldiers. Some of the wounded and sick were treated with the careful help of local residents in Fuding. On August 28, Zhu De led the Fourth Red Army to leave Fuding and prepare to return to western Fujian, leaving behind more than 40 seriously wounded soldiers and 400 silver dollars, entrusting the local people with their treatment and care. These seriously wounded soldiers were accommodated in the Guo Family Ancestral Hall and received attentive medical care, with many recovering quickly and returning to their units. Some Red Army soldiers unfortunately passed away due to the severity of their injuries. The local people followed local customs to lay them to rest. A few Red Army soldiers lived safely in the area for several years before leaving. In 1992, to commemorate the Fourth Red Army soldiers who died in Fuding, the Hengkou Township People's Government and the county civil affairs bureau established the Red Army Martyrs' Monument on the hill behind Hengkou Middle School.

Hengkou Township is located in the western part of Yongchun County, at 117°53′ east longitude and 25°27′ north latitude. It borders Xiayang Town and Kengzikou Town to the east, Yidu Town to the west, Jiandou Town of Anxi County to the south, and Wushu Village of Yidu to the north. The township covers a total area of 69 square kilometers, including 55.9 square kilometers of mountainous land. The terrain slopes from low in the south to high in the north, with an elevation difference of nearly 600 meters (from 300 meters to 895 meters above sea level).
