Fengmei Hall – Former Site of the Red Fourth Army Grain Bureau

Fengmei Hall is the former site of the Red Fourth Army Grain Bureau, located in Houyang Corner, Fulian Village, Yongchun County.

From August 22 to 28, 1929, Comrade Zhu De led over 3,000 troops from the Second and Third Columns of the Red Fourth Army to stationed in Fuding Township, Yongchun County (which includes present-day Fuzhong, Fulian, and Huanfeng villages in Hengkou Township) for rest and recuperation. At that time, the population of Fuding was less than a thousand, making it impossible to meet the supply needs of the Red Fourth Army. To resolve the supply difficulties and combat profiteering merchants, the quartermaster of the Red Fourth Army, the Soldiers' Committee, and local gentry jointly established a grain bureau at Fengmei Hall in Fulian Village. They organized local residents to purchase grain from nearby towns such as Yidu, Xiayang, and Guiyang in Yongchun, as well as neighboring counties including Dehua, Datian, and Anxi, to solve the army's food supply issues. The Red Army maintained fair trade practices—for example, when previously carrying rice from Pingshan in Dehua (now part of Datian), each load cost three danzi, but the Red Army paid one silver dollar, which earned them great popularity among the locals. Lai Yi (then Deputy Chief of Staff of the Third Column Headquarters of the Red Fourth Army) recalled in his article "Striking into Central Fujian" (published in December 1979 in the Fujian People’s Publishing House’s book Spring in Western Fujian): “To address the food supply issue, the Red Army mobilized local residents to carry rice from nearby towns and then purchased it at high prices. This not only supplied military provisions but also lightened the burden on the people.”

Fengmei Hall was also the location of a sentry post established by the Red Fourth Army at the time, with telephone lines extending from Meikui Hall all the way to this site.

Fengmei Hall is the branch ancestral hall of the Guo family in Fulian Village, with a -floor structure (originally two stories, now only one floor remains) on the eastern side.

Hengkou Township is located in the western part of Yongchun County, at 117°53′ east longitude and 25°27′ north latitude. It borders Xiayang Town and Kengzikou Town to the east, Yidu Town to the west, Jiandou Town of Anxi County to the south, and Wushu Village of Yidu to the north.
