Xian Shan Hall — Former Site of the Headquarters of the 2nd and 3rd Columns of the Fourth Red Army

Xian Shan Hall is the former site of the headquarters of the 2nd and 3rd Columns of the Fourth Red Army, located in Huanfeng Village, Hengkou Township, Yongchun County.

In August 1929, Comrade Zhu De led the 2nd and 3rd Columns of the Fourth Red Army along with the General Front Committee staff—over 3,000 people in total—on an expedition into central Fujian. When they were stationed in Fuding Township, Yongchun County (including the current Fuzhong, Fulian, and Huanfeng villages of Hengkou Township) for rest and reorganization, they established the headquarters of the 2nd and 3rd Columns at Xian Shan Hall. To facilitate communication, many telephone lines were run from Xian Shan Hall to the outside. The hall also served as a meeting place for the leaders of the Fourth Red Army, with Zhu De walking here from Mei Kui Hall across the rice fields to attend meetings.

Huanfeng Village: Overview of Huanfeng Village

Legend has it that the village got its name “Huanfeng” (meaning “surrounded by peaks”) because it is embraced by mountains on all sides—a name derived from the homophonic sound. Before 1949, it belonged to Fuding Township, Erdu. After 1949, it was part of Fuding Township, Yidu District. During the commune period in 1958, it was under Fuding Brigade, Yidu Commune. In 1961, Huanfeng Brigade was established. In 1984, it was renamed Huanfeng Village Committee.
