Dayang Bridge

In Dayang Village, Dongliu Township, Wuping County, there stands a Dayang Bridge, built at the main thoroughfare connecting several administrative villages including Dayang, Niyang, and Nanfang. The exact time of its construction is no longer traceable, but the name of the bridge has merged with that of the village (locals commonly refer to Dayang Village as Dayang Bridge), indicating its long history. Dayang Bridge is a wind-and-rain bridge, called a "Yin Bridge" in the Hakka language. It is 39 meters long, 4 meters wide, and 6 meters high, with a structure of wood and stone.

A wooden plaque hangs in the center of Dayang Bridge, inscribed with “Record of the Reconstruction of Dayang Bridge.” It states: “This bridge can shelter people from wind and rain, and can serve as a substitute for boats,” truly making travel more convenient. The current Dayang Bridge was rebuilt in the seventh year of the Xianfeng reign during the Qing Dynasty (1857 AD) and has a history of 150 years.

Both ends of Dayang Bridge are adorned with the same couplet. The upper line reads: “Great literary works float on the water’s surface”; the lower line reads: “Spring haze locks the bridge at its head.” This is inspired by lines from Li Bai’s “Preface to the Feast in Peach Blossom Garden for My Younger Relatives on a Spring Night”: “Moreover, spring summons me with its misty scenery, and nature lends me its grand literary brush.” Here, “great” refers to nature itself.

Dayang Village: Once hailed as a “flagship village in new rural development,” Dayang has been awarded honors such as “Fujian Province Advanced Village in Democratic Management and Legal System” and “Fujian Province Hundred Demonstration Villages in New Rural Development.” Dayang Market was historically an important hub for material and cultural exchange between the six villages of the “Upper Four Townships” in Dongliu and the people of Dongtou Township in Jiangxi.
