China News Service, Longyan, Oct. 14 (Chen Danni, Qiu Yuxiang, Zhou Yangdong) Two elderly people attempted to hike up a mountain to pray for blessings during the Double Ninth Festival, but unexpectedly got lost and fell into a deep ravine during the climb, remaining trapped for over 20 hours. The Longyan Fire Department reported on the 14th that after nearly six hours of rescue efforts by the Wuping Fire Brigade and local police, the two elderly individuals were successfully rescued.
At 7:30 p.m. on the 12th, the Wuping Fire Brigade received an emergency call reporting that two elderly people were trapped in the deep mountains of Liangye Mountain Scenic Area in Zhongbao Town, Wuping County, Longyan, suffering from injuries and unable to walk down the mountain on their own.
It turned out that the two elderly individuals lived in Wuping County, Longyan, and had planned to climb a mountain together to burn incense and pray for blessings during the Double Ninth Festival. Unexpectedly, they got lost halfway up the mountain, stumbled around for quite a distance, and then accidentally fell into a ravine more than two meters deep. After being trapped for over 20 hours, they encountered hikers who helped them call for help.
Upon receiving the call, officers from the Wuping Fire Brigade quickly rushed to the scene with mountain rescue equipment. As the fire truck could not reach the mountaintop, the firefighters had to carry stretchers, immobilization airbags, ropes, safety hooks, and other tools and hike for one hour to reach the accident site.
When the firefighters arrived, they found that the two trapped elderly individuals had already been moved from the ravine to a temple at the top of Liangye Mountain with the assistance of local police. Upon examination, one of them—an 87-year-old man—was found to be in more serious condition, appearing weak, with visible blood on his face, bruises and discoloration on his head, and multiple cuts on his body. The other elderly person only had minor cuts and was otherwise unharmed.
Police at the scene explained that due to their injuries and advanced age, the two elderly individuals were no longer able to walk down the mountain on their own. Based on the situation, the fire commander immediately formulated a rescue plan, deciding to carry the elderly down the mountain using stretchers. Once the plan was set, the firefighters secured the two elderly individuals onto rescue stretchers and, together with the police on-site, spent over six hours successfully carrying them out of the deep mountains and transferring them to an ambulance.
It is understood that thanks to the timely rescue, the elderly individuals are currently out of life-threatening danger.
