Liangshan Academy

Liangshan Academy is a cultural relic protection unit of Fujian Province.

Former Site of the Front Committee of the Fourth Red Army — Liangshan Academy is located on Zhengxie Lane, Pingchuan Town, Wuping County, Longyan City. Built in the 12th year of the Guangxu reign during the Qing Dynasty (1886), the academy faces south and is constructed of wood and earth. It consists of two courtyards and east and west wing rooms, covering an area of 746 square meters. It now serves as the Wuping County Museum. The single-courtyard corridor-style building has a row of wing rooms on each side. The central axis from south to north includes the courtyard, front hall, patio, and main hall. The front hall is three bays wide and three pillars deep. It features a hanging hip roof and is built of wood and earth. The entrance gate has a traditional eight-character design with upturned eaves, exuding grandeur, and is inset with engraved regular script inscriptions signed by then magistrate Tang Zhixie, reading “Liangshan Academy” and “Summer Month of the Year Bingxu in the Guangxu Reign.”

Due to Mao Zedong having stayed here and holding red revolutionary symposiums, Liangshan Academy gained significant fame. Today, the academy’s architecture remains quaint, while the camellias in front bloom even more vibrantly.
