Yongping Zhubao Songmao

Yongping Zhubao Songmao is a cultural relic protection unit of Fujian Province.

Yongping Zhubao Songmao is located in Maocun Village, Yongping Town, Wuping County, dating back to the Qing Dynasty.

Description: Also known as the De Mao Ancestral Hall, it was built in the early years of the Daoguang reign during the Qing Dynasty. Facing east and situated west, it features a layout of three halls and six wings, consisting of the main hall, two rows of side wings on either side, a courtyard, and a pond, covering an area of approximately 3,800 square meters with a built-up area of about 2,000 square meters. Along the central axis are, in sequence: the Lower Hall, the Front Courtyard, the Middle Hall, the Rear Courtyard, and the Rear Hall. The Lower Hall has a gate tower in the center, spanning three bays in width and three columns in depth; the Middle Hall spans three bays in width and five columns in depth, featuring a hybrid wooden structure of raised beams and through-tenon work; the Rear Hall spans three bays in width and seven columns in depth, with a through-tenon wooden structure and a flush-gable roof. Zhubao Songmao boasts a grand scale and an orderly layout, with exquisite wood carvings and brick carvings. In March 1934, during the Red Army’s fifth counter-“encirclement and suppression” campaign, the command post of the Independent Regiment of the Third Sub-district of the Guangdong-Gan Border Region Military District was stationed in this hall, where well-preserved Red Army slogans can still be found today.

Protected area: The surrounding walls of the building are extended 10 meters outward on all sides.

In 2018, Yongping Zhubao Songmao was announced by the People’s Government of Fujian Province as part of the ninth batch of provincial-level cultural relic protection units.

Yongping Town: Yongping Township[1] is located in the mountain valley at the northern foot of Dangfeng Ridge in the central-northern part of Wuping County, at 116°07′ east longitude and 25°16′ north latitude, 27 kilometers from the county seat, and is known as the “Southern Gateway of Northern Wuping.” The township covers a total area of 256.16 square kilometers. It has 25,100 mu of arable land, a forest coverage rate of 65%, standing timber volume of 1.21 million cubic meters, and is a typical mountainous township primarily focused on agriculture and forestry.
